Artist Website Design
Darlene Pratt is a professional clay artist in London, ON. A couple of years ago, when she first decided to go with an artist website design, she was advised to use Shopify as the platform. Once she moved forward with it, she realized it’s more focused as an e-commerce platform and has limited functionality for showcasing her portfolio.
Her primary purpose with the website was to display her artwork professionally, and selling online was a bonus where she can sell some art pieces occasionally. Therefore, the platform’s purpose was not a good match with her main objective. It didn’t make sense to stay there and pay extra for gallery apps to display her artwork properly. That’s when we started working together.
Project Scope
Platform Selection
We started with guiding her with the selection of the most suitable website platform for her. Together, we discussed multiple options including WordPress, Squarespace, and Wix and compared them based on features, value and cost. Based on our assessments, we decided to move forward with Wix for her new website.
Artist Website Design
Moving to the design of her new artist website, first, we explored the styles that Darlene likes, and worked on a structure for her website based on the content she wanted to have there.
Using her brand colours, we designed the website in a way that reflects her artistic style. We displayed her projects and collections in a professional way with user experience in mind. We also ensured that the site is responsive – which means being properly displayed on mobile devices without compromising the style and content.
Additionally, we optimized all the settings to ensure the website is properly displayed on search engines. We worked on keywords, meta descriptions and images to make the site SEO-friendly.
We launched the website just in time before the subscription renewal date of the previous platform as we promised. We’re still supporting Darlene to maximize her potential as a revenue generating professional artist.
